Private Investigator Lance Archer investigates a small water system that he suspects of ground water under the direct influence (GWUDI) of surface water. The video emphasizes understanding GWUDI, the impact of local geology, examining wells in confined and unconfined aquifers, looking for red flags that may indicate GWUDI, evaluating test data for potential GWUDI, follow-up test procedures and regulator requirements for GWUDI systems.
Created for the U.S. EPA Office of Water by the National Environmental, Safety and Health Training Association, the "Before You Begin..." series of videos are intended for training and refreshing the knowledge of state drinking water sanitary survey inspectors, just prior to an inspection. The videos in the series often also are used in public community sessions and councils to inform the public about the responsibilities and difficulties faced by local officials in maintaining their public water facilities, particularly small systems.
