A few days after his 2013 Grammy Award clean-up - on Valentine's Day - the affable Gotye flew home from LA to honour a previous commitment in a small bar in Enmore where Groovescooter had asked him to take part in a special In Conversation session with interviewer Paris Pompor. Co-presented by Groovescooter and 2SER, we'd all come full circle with Wally De Backer: Groovescooter were the first label to take interest in his music back before the debut album came out (there are even a few Gotye cover versions in Groovescooter's back catalogue), whilst 2SER were one of the first stations ever to play Gotye, courtesy of a CD-R he'd sent a decade earlier. This 20-minute video montage collects a number of Wally's stories from the night. The footage was filmed and edited by Campbell Drummond from C&C Film Factory.
If you'd like to the full one-hour interview as it was later broadcast on radio, head to groovescooter.com/catalogue/gotye-in-conversation.html where you'll also find photos from the night. The Groovescooter website also has recordings of numerous other In Conversation events with people like Martha Wainwright, Devo, Steve Kilbey and Amanda Palmer.
