Eugene describes his arrival in Auschwitz as a boy of 16. He was immediately separated from his mother and sisters, then from his father. He never saw any of them again. He describes feeling absolutely numb as they were stripped, shaved, showered and disinfected. He describes the routine of life in Auschwitz, living 900 people to a block and sharing a bare wooden bunk with 4 other people, with barely any food.
