MU proudly presents the first European solo exhibition of Canadian, Los Angeles- based artist Heather Cassils from May 22 until July 19. Cassils is an agitator whose exciting images seduce and provoke. Incendiary showcases Cassils’ live durational works and the resulting performative objects, which melt, vibrate, flash and burn with visceral intensity. Using their physical body to form a visual language, Cassils speaks to the unrepresentability of trauma. Their oeuvre confronts our everyday consumption of violent images.
Cassils’ latest work, Inextinguishable Fire, will premier at MU. Captured in extreme slow motion Cassils is depicted performing a terrifyingly dangerous stunt in which their body is engulfed in flames. The piece lasts as long as their exhalation (14 seconds stretched to 14 minutes).
