International Festival Of Electroacoustic Art
Quadrophonia is an international festival for free improvisation, experimental surround sound and UKO (indefinable sound objects). Other features include electroacoustic sound synthesis, solo playing and interacting, research and experiment. It took place in 2009, 2012 and 2015 in Nuremberg - Germany.
Quadrophonia will combine 6-10 sound artists for two days, electro-acoustics, sound researchers, sound designers and musicians of different styles with their very own acoustic concepts. Each of the national and international artists has been working for years with the topic sound and has developed his individual acoustic language and tools. The festival is a forum of contemporary acoustic expressions and movements far beyond the aesthetic listening habits and breaks with specific categorizations of making music.
The festival, which will take place from Friday night (opening) to Saturday evening, is conceptually divided into two parts. During the day, the participating artists will present their own work and concert solo. Then they are available to the interested public in moderated panel discussion and provide information about their artistic work.
In the evenings (Friday / Saturday) will be quadraphonic concerts and all sound artists of the festival will participate. These two concerts will last exactly 120 minutes. The artists will create a special score - called the playlist - which will be realized than. It’s a specification of the festival, that artists do not perform sequentially, they act together.
There is the possibility for networking, and artists, who usually have their own form of presentation, should compromise their personal artistic output in laboring together. The playlist, will be given to visitors as a handout. Quadrophonia should be casted by regional, national and international artists.
