This was a fun race, although not one of my more exciting races. Steve Schmidt and I were on the front row. Carl was way in the back due to pulling in from qualifying with a cracked rotor.
I ran a slow rolling start to give Carl the chance to use his horsepower to run outside and up top through the banked turn one to catch up with us as we figured if Norris, Steve and I could run just fast enough to stay up front then Carl could catch us by the next lap around the start finish line. He did. You can see me wave off our own fast rolling start from inside my car and then we are off.
Steve and I break away after a few laps and it ends up he I running cat and mouse to the end. Steve kept me running fast. With traffic he was right on me a few times, but the traffic never broke his way and he never got in position to be able to execute a pass. He did run the fastest lap of the race with 1/2 second better than my time. I am sure he did that when trying to catch me. It was a good lap at 1:48.3 on a hot humid summer day, although clearly off of our January 2010 1:46.x lap times.
