Although “Thursday is a Work of Art” happened 35 years ago, it’s controversial antics cast a long shadow in Hartford. It grew out of the Knox Foundation’s efforts to enliven the city. For 8 weeks in 1977 and 13 weeks in 1978, Hartford was turned into an arts playground every Thursday with hundreds of interactive events to engage people. Some artists went on to greater fame such as performance artist Michael Smith, actor Mark Linn Baker and artist Peter Waite. The program was created by Ann Kieffer, Tim Keating and Bob Gregson.
