At 7:30am on Saturday, June 28th, 2008, the 570-foot-tall, 5770-ton smokestack of the High Bridge power plant came crashing down. The coal burning High Bridge power plant, located in Saint Paul, Minnesota was built in 1923 and is being replaced by a new gas-fired plant down the road. This demolition is the most dramatic phase of the old power plant tear-down that will be completed by the end of 2008.
We took this video from the 5th floor terrace of the Science Museum of Minnesota on the morning of the collapse.
