For the first time, finishing top of the table after the 18 matches in the Scottish BT Premiership season, didn't give you the title. Instead, to replace the British & Irish Cup competition in which the four top Scottish clubs would normally compete, a Play-Off format was introduced at the end of the season. Heriot's were 10 points ahead at the top after 18 games and were seeded 1. They played Currie (seeded 4) in the semi final and duly beat them. In the other semi, Melrose (3rd seed) defeated Ayr (seeded 2) to take their place in the Premiership Play-Off Final, with the top seeded team gaining home advantage. So Heriot's took on Melrose at Goldenacre in a match where the winners would be crowned Scottish Champions. Melrose were the holders but Heriot's were the favourites. It was a well-attended game where the lead changed hands several times, but who would come out on top? Post match interviews with Jason Hill (Heriot's) and Fraser Thomson (Melrose).
