Beastly Beauties was a devised work I created with University of Birmingham Final Year Drama Students (2004/5). This piece was the starting point for what has become my yet to be finished Birnam Wood Project. In this first sketch of ideas I started with mythology, fairytales, Paula Rego paintings, grandmas, tree study and the idea of a society of women - The Tree Society. I later developed and directed the same work with Kindle Theatre (now Kiln Ensemble). It became Kindle's first Edinburgh show attracting some strong reviews for the work and for this new company I helped establish made up of graduates from the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts who worked on Beastly Beauties with me.
