“Exiles and Outlaws” is a short documentary from the director of "The Disenchanted Forest". "Exiles and Outlaws" is a story of two cultures that once lived in harmony but are now locked in head to head conflict.
Like humans, elephants are sentient beings with powerful memories and complex intelligence. In their daily lives, elephants make survival choices and problem-solve in their daily lives. Newly discovered knowledge is passed on to their kin and peers. Throughout East Africa pastoral people have always followed in the footsteps of elephants to benefit from their legendary knowledge of the environment.
As a Save the Elephants field manager, David Daballen is a guardian of a population of elephants that range across Northern Kenya. In recent years David has see tension escalate between humans and elephants. By interweaving traditional Rendille storytelling with behavioural science, David illuminates how increasing inter-species conflict alters elephant culture and society. Elephant communities will make choices to resolve conflict that arises when species collide.
