Wednesday, 21 January. 9:08am. An email lands in our inbox asking us if we can be in Queenstown, NZ in 7 days time.
We both look at each other across the desk.
The email came from talented New Zealand based photographer Emily Adamson, and she was working on something pretty special. She wanted to know if we could capture Alex + Lisa’s 67th wedding ceremony.
After packing up their lives and selling everything, Alex and Lisa have spent more than 3 years travelling across the world in search of their ideal wedding location.
Rather than having a ‘white wedding’ at each stop, Alex and Lisa try to embrace the local culture and traditions of each country they visit, incorporating those into the wedding ceremony.
It didn’t take much of a hard sell from Emily to get us over – there was going to be the amazing Queenstown backdrop, a helicopter ride, and a beautiful ceremony littered with Maori traditions on the waters edge at Mt Nicholas Station.
To be honest, she had us at Fergburger.
So, on January 26, Australia Day, we flew to New Zealand! That night, over beers, wine and a fire alarm, we met with Alex and Lisa for the first time and listened intently as they shared their incredible journey to date.
We heard tales of weddings in far off places, trials and tribulations involving their beloved van, Peggy, and all the wonderful people they had met so far.
Rather than merely document the ceremony for them, we wanted to tell a deeper story. We wanted to explore their reasoning for embarking on this epic journey.
So the next day, bleary eyed, we started spending some time with Alex and Lisa, talking with them, following them around as they prepared for their 67th wedding ceremony.
This short film is a glimpse into their incredible story.
We had an amazing time and met some amazing people. We’re really thankful we had the opportunity.
So here’s to following your heart and your dreams. Here’s to happiness and friendship. Here’s to the people we meet, the experiences we make. Let’s celebrate.
