Chabah Yelmani Gallery is pleased to announce the opening on April 9th, of New Gender Bending Strawberry,
Yuki Kobayashi’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.
“I landed on the Earth from a new planet called "New Gender Bending Strawberry".
My head is red. My skin is silver. My sex is masking tape. I used to eat strawberries everyday. When I wanted to escape from something which I do not like, I will look at the strawberry. And one day, I have decided to turn into a strawberry instead of being myself. The first idea of this project was to fuse myself and something to be away from something else. It is fluctuation of ourselves taking over something or taken over by something.
I spread my universe through this character with silver mannequins. Silver Mannequins are creatures of my children. It could be transformed to anything such as friends, family, strangers, animals or objects etc. to expand the limitations of my project over the world.
I will set up an installation called "The Factory of Universe " which is a never-completing artwork, and I will perform as the "New Gender Bending Strawberry" character.
In the factory, I will reinstall mannequins that is the progression performance as creating in Live.
The paintings in the installation are integrating with mannequins, with the idea of human beings are also concerned as parts of the object in the world. The texts on the paintings are written "Ichigo Silver". 'Ichigo' means strawberry in Japanese. The world is seeking of equality but never existing freedom vice versa. However I believe that art could be making it possible by invited to forget about the restrictions outside. I express a peculiar universe that does not exist on the earth for the show to draw the audience to the new planet.“
