Texture atlases are essential to improve game performance as they are able to reduce the number of game draw calls. In order to easily create texture atlases, I have written a tool named Easy Atlas. Easy Atlas uses Photoshop to merge several textures into a single one, and Maya to rearrange mesh UVs. It allows users to choose texture proportions on an atlas grid according to the importance it will have in a scene.
If you think this tool would be useful for you, please feel free to download it from:
Add the easy_atlas folder to: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\maya\2015-x64\scripts
* Use your USERNAME
* Choose your maya version
Run the following code from the script editor:
Easy Atlas is compatible with Maya 2014 and upper versions. Any Photoshop version from at least CS3 version should be supported.
The models used in this demo have been downloaded from Turbosquid.
