As you’ve heard in the news, an earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 with its epicenter just outside Kathmandu. Major areas of Nepal have been hit very hard. Many buildings have collapsed, and the death toll continues to rise.
We at One Challenge have an extensive network of local relationships from years of training pastors across Nepal. We have OC staff and partners on the ground assessing the situation.
Please pray for the nation of Nepal and for relief efforts. As we talked to our partners about needs, of course their first request was for prayer. So ask your church to pray as this crisis continues to unfold. We also invite you to join in partnership with us. Thank you for your prayers for our OC personnel in Nepal. They are well, and out of danger.
One OC leader reports that his family survived, but can’t return to their home on the 4th floor of a shaken apartment building. Nobody is eager to stay inside their own house. A neighbor said that it is not earthquakes that kill, but buildings. Many are living under tarps for this very reason. It is just too scary to go back inside. An OC worker there says, “We saw tarps and tents in many places. What struck me as powerful in this is that churches are opening their “tents” to the community around them. Their walls have literally fallen down, and the community has come in to join them.”
These ministry partners have been devastated, and we at One Challenge want to help them in their relief efforts … to reach their neighbors, their villages, their cities, and their whole country. You can help by giving to the OC Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund at onechallenge.org/GIVE.
