I met Vittorio at a truckers’ rally near Milan. Two months later I went with him on a journey by truck, from the north of Italy to Helsinki. Vittorio has been working as long distance truck driver for about forty years, carrying furniture anywhere in Europe. Always on the road, his peers gave him the nickname “Gipsy”. He has two wild geese painted on his truck and tattooed on his body. But trucker’s journeys are quite different from those of migrant birds. Truckers follow freight routes, traveling mostly alone, in huge competition with their counterparts from other countries.
