A snapshot of life in Colombia today. This short film takes us to Bogotá's seldom-seen outer boroughs to observe the work of doctors from Clinica San Rafael, a private hospital in the capital city.
In recent years CSR staff have set up free health clinics in these boroughs, in order to assist displaced populations arriving from inland rural areas. These are people forced to flee their homes after being caught in the crossfire between the guerrilla and the military, paramilitary or other external agents.
They are ill-equipped to adapt to life in a deprived urban environment and will usually slip below the radar of what little public assistance is available. It is left to private organizations and the church to provide whatever limited relief they can.
The footage is a few years old now but the statistics - three to four million displaced during the ongoing conflict - remain current. Filmed on a Canon XM1 without external mic, lights or tripod due to logistical restrictions.
