On August 20th, 2014, some of the leading thinkers in foster care gathered in Oklahoma City to share ideas and experiences that are making a difference throughout the country. The presentations and discussions from this important were captured on video to be utilized as resources designed to equip a team of passionate people in any church to be wise and thoughtful foster care advocates.
Bishop Aaron Blake Sr. is a resident of Brownwood, TX where he pastors Greater Faith Community Church. He is also the founder and Chief Executive of Harvest Family Life, an organization that trains state officials and church staff in finding homes for children in foster care. Bishop Blake’s work has now turned toward opening doors between Child Protective Services and faith communities, and these efforts have led to a new model for faith-based collaboration. This new approach has changed the way the State is interacting with churches; in that it allows the church to retain control of selecting and implementing a ministry of services which range from prevention to permanency. He and his wife Mary of 29 years have 6 children, 2 daughters in law and 8 grand children. They also have 6 foster sons who remain “engrafted” into the Blake family and continue to lovingly call him “Pop.”
