Continuing the Conversation-Raising a Healthy Child: Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice
Speaker: Wendy Slusser, MD, MS, FAAP
Associate Vice Provost, UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative
HS Clinical Professor, UCLA Schools of Medicine and Public Health
Obesity is a major public health concern for America's children. The problem is particularly prevalent in low-income, high-minority communities, where access to healthy food is often lacking. Children's food preferences can develop as early as infancy and intervention during these early years has the potential to offset the risk for obesity and chronic disease. During childhood there are ample opportunities to establish healthy eating practices and good physical activity habits, rather than trying to remedy unhealthy patterns later in life. In this webinar, Dr. Slusser discusses the ways we can cultivate healthy eating habits throughout childhood and adolescence and into adulthood. She also explores how to eat healthfully and sustainably for our health and enjoyment, our community and the world.
