Since this presentation, The BMJ competing interests policy has evolved further. From January 2015, The BMJ is phasing in a policy for editorials and Education articles to be written by authors without relevant financial links to industry (see editorial, "Medical journals and industry ties" bmj.com/content/349/bmj.g7197).
