The collapse of the “bucket and spade” holiday since the 1970’s has left Blackpool with a vast landscape of dormant guesthouses, which are now beginning to fundamentally change in nature. More and more buildings are no longer servicing holiday-makers but instead housing an enormous transient population of outsiders pitching up and trying to “disappear”.
We look at the shifting landscape of Blackpool through the “The Ashleigh Hotel”, now an eighteen bedroom hostel with residents staying as long as thirty-five years and Haworth’s Bingo, still staked firmly in the town’s defiantly cheerful, optimistic traditions where anyone can try their luck and win big.
