This documentary explores the lives of eleven women who live in La Carpio, a refugee settlement located outside San Jose, Costa Rica. During my ten-month Fulbright grant, I witnessed how Gail Nystrom, the director of the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, gave these women and their community a strength and power they did not know, in a place where the government is noticeably absent. I listened, learned, filmed and gave each woman a camera to photograph her daily life. Throughout the documentary, the women's photographs illustrate their very personal narratives. Hopefully, this film will garner awareness about La Carpio and The Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation crhf.org. Any donation is welcome.
