Dr. David Hughes, Rutgers University, Department of Anthropology -- Ethics and tactics of divesting from fossil fuels
David M. Hughes is currently Professor of anthropology at Rutgers University. As an environmental anthropologist who often works in geography, he studies the relationship between culture, politics, and political economy and physical landscapes, particularly in the regions of Southern Africa. His book From Enslavement to Environmentalism: Politics on a Southern African Frontier (University of Washing Press 2006), examines the politics of eco-development in the Zimbabwe-Mozambique border zone as shaped by European colonization. Other publications include essays in American Ethnologist, Journal of Southern African Studies, and Cultural Anthropology. His most recent research efforts are directed toward a project which scrutinizes Southern African conservation as performed by elite Zimbabwean whites in their efforts to belong in Africa.
