In 1939 three keen skiers from Launceston decided that the only way to enjoy their sport was to build a hut in above the snow line on Ben Lomond, Tasmania. They were Allan Dumaresq, Bill Mitchell and Ernest Mills. This movie is taken from original footage taken by Ernest Mills on a 16mm movie camera and documents the building of that hut which was to become Dumitchmill. The hut was extended after WW2 to accommodate growing families and is still in use and enjoyed by the founders descendants. In recent years the ski field became a National Park and the hut was threatened with orders to remove it. Fortunately that never came about and now some would suggest it should be heritage listed. Enjoy.
