The Sunday Master Class at Marvin Bu Ga Lu Smith's home is a success. This was the second time for this and students were able to come into the Master's residence and relax in his environment and feel the communication between him and Master John Esposito. Young Master Ben Newsome played a track called The Promise, originally recorded and written and played by John William Coltrane around 1963 at Birdland. I remeber, I was there with Alvin Queen when we were youngsters sitting in the Peanut Gallery supervised by Pee Wee.
The 27 minutes of playing here demonstrates the most important thing a student can learn and that is to listen and become familiar with communication techniques. Being so physically close to the MASTER PLAYERS also gives the student a great view of FLOW from THE FRONT ROW, actually, right on the bandstand with these MASTERS. Masters are able to field questions from the students right on the spot. These classes are so valuable and can't be replaced by any other teaching but they supplement the Tuesday nights at THE TERRACE. I have never seen such a great school available directly on the internet as jazzdrumlessons.com/ because Master Marvin and all the Masters become as available to the student as a "CLICK OF THE MOUSE" if they are unable to attend physically. Wow! The video speaks for itself. Wonderful, wonderful job of teaching. I pray that all who want to be in touch with these Masters follow the program whether they are able to come to the residence on Sunday's or to The Terrace on Tuesdays.
The balance and FLOW are real things to experience and these Masters always apply the Spiritual, Inner side to their playing because they are truly playing their life and teaching others how to communicate their own life through their instruments. It's so beautiful because it's HEALING MEDICINE. That's what music is.
Love Always and Always LOVE,
