From series 'Space Traps' - segment 'Structure of Holes'.
A sculptural installation “Space-Time-o-scope” is one of Olga Ast's works that investigates the connection between time, space and information, and the impact that they have on everything that we find around us. It was started many years ago and is still in development.
It is a see-through structure composed of a row of transparent, mirrored and holed objects, which are hung individually on a horizontal line several feet above the ground on the average person’s height and sight-line. Elements are constantly rotating along the axis of their viewer’s gaze. This axis is the one along which this installation could be endlessly extended. Each piece revolves around itself, reflecting its environment and multiplying in mirrored surfaces of other elements of the installation. The structure is built to be modular – the individual elements can be reconfigured, subtracted and added ad infinitum. Each time this project is exhibited, a new version is created. This installation could develop endlessly because the nature of space is endless.
“Space-Time-o-scope” is a part of “Field of Vision”, a series of installations, performances and texts that also includes “Space Traps”; “A Dispersion of Meanings”; “Eve & Death”; “Reconstruction of Adam”. Ast started to work on it in the 1980s and still continue to develop it. Segments of this project has been exhibited in New York, Moscow and worldwide. The latest and biggest addition in the series is the ArcheTime project.
These works explore the spatial, temporal and contextual relationships between objects and investigate the notion of space and time as an artistic medium.
