Hi. I’m Doug Stephenson, Director of Chaplaincy Ministries for the Church of God of Prophecy.
The military chaplaincy ministry is one of the most challenging and at the same time one of the most rewarding ministries ever.
Personally, I have served as a local pastor for the past twenty-three years since my retirement from the military chaplaincy. During my time as a chaplain in the US Army, I reported more salvation experiences than I have in the time I have been a pastor. For this reason, I view the military chaplaincy as one of the largest mission boards in the world with the resources to send gospel ministers throughout the United States and all over the world. I have had the privilege to preach all over the world to several different languages and cultures, and my family was privileged to serve with me in such interesting destinations as Germany in Europe.
Friends, we are living in critical times with changing morals and values, especially in the area of family and marriage. This makes it all the more important that we have chaplains with the moral and spiritual aptitude to rightly advise military commanders on such important issues.
The Church of God of Prophecy is in great need of ministers to serve our church and country as military chaplains. Right now we have immediate openings in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy.
If God is dealing with any of you ministers about serving as chaplains, please contact our department at the information provided at the end of this video.
I am also asking each member of the church to pray that God will raise up ministers in the church who will answer this call for chaplains. I myself answered the call of the church in 1972 when I became the very first military chaplain for the Church of God of Prophecy. I began preparing myself in 1966 when Bishop Elwood Matthews asked the church to pray that God would raise up ministers to serve as chaplains in the military. I am asking you to help me pray for this need now.
I’d also like to let you know about a wonderful training opportunity coming next summer for ministers and members interested in additional training and resources. I will be conducting community service chaplain training prior to the next general assembly in Orlando, Florida. This training is open to both ministers and members and will focus on ministries which are conducted “outside the four walls” of the church. Watch for announcements, as we get closer to the assembly in July 2016.
