The Capital Trail 2015 took place on the weekend of 13th and 14th June and is a new addition to UK Bike Packing events,
Organised by Markus Stitz it is a 238km offroad loop from the City of Edinburgh through East Lothian and the Scottish Borders, then returning to Edinburgh over the Pentland Hills.
This year was the inaugural event and i rode with friends Mike, Dave, Colin and Sanny. We rode the event as a fun 2 days enjoying the trails, social food breaks and laughs, and we got each other through the tough bits of each day, with approx 6200 meters of climbing, though what goes up goes down too and there was some great descents!.
89 miles offroad on the Saturday was challenging!. weather was overcast and low cloud and drizzle as we climbed up to the 3 Brethens, but a bonfire and some whisky as we wild camped was the reward,
Sundays 49 mile ride home we made easier with an amazing cooked breakfast in Peebles at the Cross Keys after a big hill crossing in the cold mist and rain,
Then after the next stop was for Tea and Scones at West Linton!, That fueled us up for over the Pentlands as the sky cleared and the sun shone and warmed our backs as we cruised down into Edinburgh and along the water of Lieth through town and dipped our wheels in the sand at Portobello, Followed of course by a well earned pint!.
A riding time of 33 hours 40 minutes with loads more enjoying the scenery and company of friends old and new we met over the fantastic weekend... :)
