Kathak originates from the word Katha, the art of storytelling. In turn, story is an idiom for emotions; the journey of a soul in rapture. Love is at the base of all emotions: in love, the soul transcends form, silence becomes dance, rhythm becomes colour, light sings and the body becomes a memory. Every feeling is both intense and immediate. Aangika is a manifestation of the tukra, a celestial pirouette encompassing the four seasons of love – hope, longing, anguish and joy. These journeys in love have been explored by Sanjukta Sinha through contemporary expressions distilled from the traditional vocabulary of Kathak.
