Research continues to demonstrate that active engagement with the arts can improve health across the lifespan and especially as we age. Demographics suggest that increasing the participation of older patrons will keep arts organizations healthy and vibrant into the coming decades. Building on the Creative Age forum last year, we will explore the transformative potential of theatre to health care settings, particularly through intergenerational efforts with Dr. Anne Basting.
Dr. Basting is currently at work on the Islands of Milwaukee, a collaboration with Sojourn Theatre that aims to bring creative engagement to older adults living alone, and to catalyze public conversations about creating a more connected community. Basting founded and continues to facilitate the Creative Trust, an alliance to foster life-long learning through the arts.
