Elizabeth Wooten, from Bulan, KY passed away June 22 at age 91. Mrs. Wooten and her family fought to stop a coal company from using the broad form deed to strip mine their land beginning in the early 1980s. She was a central figure in the decades long struggle to abolish the broad form deed in Kentucky, which finally succeeded with a constitutional amendment approved by 82% of the voters.
