Most swimmers only breathe on one side. Breathing on both sides helps you with body alignment, but more importantly, it helps you improve on taking that extra stroke instead of wasting time on that breath. It helps you keep a steady rhythm. Learn to breathe on both sides with the 3/3 drill:
- In the freestyle swim, keep the left arm forward, pull 3 times with the right arm taking a breath for every stroke.
- After the third pull, switch arms, keeping the right arm forward and pulling with the left arm 3 times. Again, breathe on all three strokes.
