Women have always defined by men and vice versa.
Same happens in fiction, as film industry by directors, screen writers therefore characters themselves. Laura Mulvey’s article “Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema” took this notion into a different level in 1970s when the cinema itself was the only choice for seeing a film. With a feminist perspective she defined this framing of women as “gaze” and claimed that this causes the objectification of women.
The text that is used in the animation is adapted from the “Gone Girl” novel by Gillian Flynn, which takes Mulvey’s ideas into today’s environment, blending with popular culture. Hollywood production of the book, called “Gone Girl” as well, supports the argument by taking a male perspective, projecting female main character as ‘cruel, man hater feminist’.
Gaze is an animation that considers all of the above and adds a satirical tone with visuals.
