In 2013 Kathryn Lawler became the head of the Aging and Health Resources division of the Atlanta Regional Commission, which also functions as the nationally designated Area Agency on Aging. She helped plan and implement ARC's Lifelong Communities initiative to prepare the region for the increasing demands of the growing older adult population.
The aging demographic is here and has begun to change just about every part of the community—including the services we provide. At a time of significant growth in older and disabled populations, many organizations are confronting limited revenue, increasing regulations and hard choices including scaling back or eliminating services. In order to remain relevant, to reach those most in need and to maximize the resources available, we must innovate and adapt to new ways of doing business.
The Aging Forum series provides an excellent opportunity for staff to hear from national experts on critical issues impacting our network without having to leave the region. We will explore the changing landscape of aging services, showcase new opportunities, dissect shared challenges and discover how we can both serve and lead in today’s rapidly changing environment.
