For this shoot I was inspired by by Filippo Minelli’s landscape series "Silence & Shapes". I love the way he uses colored smoke in his photography to add an otherworldly quality to the images. I have seen smoke bombs used in other photo shoots as well, usually to add an edgy or urban feel. But for this shoot I wanted to take colored smoke in a totally different direction and I have always thought the concept might work beautifully with wedding photography.
When I connected with Sara from Confetti & Co (confettiandcompany.com) she took the idea and ran with it, and really brought this shoot to life! We assembled an amazing team of wedding vendors. It was such a pleasure to collaborate with such talented and tasteful professionals! All the details by Ilonka Florals (ilonkafloraldecorator.com), Hello Bird (hello-bird.com), BHLDN (bhldn.com), and Sweet Elizabeth's (sweetelizabethscakes.com) really helped give the shoot depth and beauty. We found our models through Rienhart Agency (reinhardagency.com) and when one of them had to cancel, we simply asked Keely our florist to step in (she just happens to be both a florist and a model)! Terrain at Styers (terrainathome.com) felt like the perfect location for this shoot and they were incredibly accommodating, letting us arrive in the morning before they opened so we could set off our smoke bombs!
We were all very pleased with the way the different elements and details came together in this shoot! I just love the light, airy, romantic and ethereal feel that the colored smoke lends to the final images.
