On June 26, 2010, the second largest national TV network in Bulgaria aired a pre-recorded “right to response” to one of their shows. The offensive show, which aired on March 27, contained anti-Christian and anti-evangelical statements accusing all Christians of pedophilia, sexual immorality, calling church-donations a “shadowy evangelical economy,” announcing that the law for church registration is too liberal, and alluding to evangelical churches as "secretive sects."
There have been many such slanderous anti-religious broadcasts in the past several years in Bulgarian media. This show was just the one that went over the top.
It took us three long months to gather Christian support for a response and legal negotiations with the producers and the TV station representatives to achieve this result.
The response, which you are about to see, countered those statements and contained two parts. In the first part I addressed the issues from a legal and Biblical perspective. The second part of the show presented a brief history of the evangelical church. The shots in that part are archives of Studio 865, Bulgarian Christian production ministry. They completed the filming of the video.
It is the common agreement that this type of aired response, in defense of the faith, is an unprecedented event in Bulgaria, a former self-declared communist and atheist nation.
Our rough estimate is that possibly over one million Bulgarian viewers have seen the 20 min presentation and have heard the good news of Jesus Christ.
False media representations of the Truth abound. It is our duty and mission as Christians to speak out against injustice and lies which misrepresent the Person and the work of God and Jesus Christ, our Savior. Thanks to all who expressed their support in this work.
