This integrated KTE webinar event is brought ot you by brainXchange in partnership with the Canadian Coalition of Seniors Mental Health, Shoppers Drug Mart and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Date: June 23, 2015
Presented by: David Conn, M.B., B.Ch, BAO, FRCPC; Philippe Vincent, Pharmacist, M.Sc., BCPP and Bonnie Schroeder, MSW, RSW.
While it is not a ‘normal’ part of aging, mental illness is a reality for some older adults. Depression is the most common mental illness in later life, contributing to disproportionately high rates of suicide.
Pharmacists are trusted health care providers who have high visibility in the community. With increasingly complex health care needs and the risk of mental health issues among older adults, pharmacists are well positioned to assist their older patients on their path of recovery from mental illness.
This CCCEP accredited educational module prepares pharmacists to incorporate the prevention, identification and treatment of depression and suicide of older patients into their daily practices (Accreditation Number: 1279-2015-1447-I-P)
Learning Objectives: After completion of this webinar pharmacists will be better able to:
~Recognize the signs and symptoms of depression in later life;
~Identify pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options to support older adults who are experiencing depression in later life;
~Appreciate the risk and protective factors of suicide in later life and
~Intervene with older patients at risk for suicide based on knowledge of risk and protective factors.
Please note: This CCCEP accredited educational module is open to Shoppers Drug Mart / Pharmaprix pharmacists until further notice.
