MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL BERLIN 2008 explored the cultural potential of urban display screens and media facades by artists works.
The Festival presented an innovative series of events including an international conference and architecture exhibition at the German Architecture Center (DAZ) that compared outstanding media facades around the world.
For the first time, the public witnessed the cultural use of mainly commercial facades of SAP, O2 World, Gasometer Schöneberg, Collegium Hungaricum Berlin which was interactively connected with a public info terminal operated by street furniture producers Wall AG. Twenty-four original artists works specifically commissioned for these different facades have been screened simultaneously from 17 October until 3 November 2008.
The MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL is an initiative of Susa Pop/ Public Art Lab (PAL) and Mirjam Struppek/ International Urban Screens Association (IUSA) in collaboration with Media Architecture Group (mag) Vienna and the German Architecture Center (DAZ). Supported by "Hauptstadtkulturfonds" and "Senat für Wirtschaft, Technologie und Frauen/Landesinitiative Projekt Zukunft Berlin".
