My name is Adrián Viale and I am currently doing a PhD in History at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. The topic of my PhD is the relationship between the Popes of Rome and the Emperors of Constantinople between the Sixth and the Eighth Centuries, and my aim is to show how this relationship influenced the development of the Papal institution.
The short documentary you are about to see aims to answer a simple question: why would anyone be interested in studying this topic? And in a broader perspective, why would so many people spend hours, days, years of their lives studying ancient or medieval history? My idea was not to answer why history is important, but to show, in the simplest way possible, why I am so passionate about it.
