Cassville, WI – Taking the Cassville ferry is not just an expedient way to cross the Mississippi River, it is an adventure, a mini sea voyage, and vacation rolled into one. Granted, it's a water bridge from the middle of nowhere to the middle of nowhere, but that's part of the mystique.
The ferry doesn't just cross the river directly, but rather cruises along the river for about 18 minutes to arrive between either landing, (that's where the voyage part comes in). Explore the back-roads, and eat at new, small restaurants, (that's the adventure part). Talk to new people on the cruise, and relax while scenery slips by, (that's the vacation part).
Walk-on or bring your truck, car, motorcycle, bus, boat, camper or tractor. Midwest News was so impressed with the experience, we had to share.
A special thanks to Captain Kim Kottke, Deckhand Harold Pellock, and Historian Dick Schnering. mwnews.net
