Performance 2120 is an innovative look at jewellery display focusing on the work of designer Lucy Boermans.
Presented as a choreographic collaboration with UNITEC students: Jasmine Donald, Brittany Kohler, Anu Khapung, Jaz Yahel and costume by fashion designer Julie Stevens – Performance 2120 pays homage to Boermans’ Celtic roots and the Scottish Arts and Crafts movement of the 1920s, with an inspirational nod to AJF editor Benjamin Lignel’s recent publication: Shows and Tales.
Boermans’ interest is twofold. In an increasingly digital age when retail experiences are increasingly web-based, you could argue the real is disappearing in favour of the imagined. Performance 2120 is about redressing the balance.
Fascinated by the connections (both conscious and subconscious) that wearers establish with any given (or bought) item, in essence - the personal connections we place upon them, Boermans seeks to express these connections via the medium of dance.
