(Make sure it's set to HD). At the portal to the crack between the worlds-we slip through and begin the journey within "INterzone"--a deeply interior & yet utterly tactile world. A red candle flickers within a mirror cave. A figure, played by Corinna MacNeice, kneels, places a rock on the ground, then rises and moves away from us into ineffable spaces where constantly changing, glowing shapes open and close, undulate and collapse, disappear and reappear as we move always forward, guiding us onwards, through stony sancta, holy chambers, alive within our sacred selves.
At the midpoint of the INterzone we catch a glimpse of the guide in profile turning swiftly back the way we came. Then our earth-toned and glowing journey transforms to luminous blue and white. Throughout, we catch glimpses of the figure moving through the stone-space, finally taking a moment to turn and face us, then rising as she dissolves into an otherworldly sun suspended in a desaturated cloud-sky.
In the broadest sense this work is about 'place'.
INterzone, which is one long continuous uncut shot, carries this idea of 'place' beyond words~ endlessly traversing portals upon portals, at times narrowing, undulating, opening ever further, then closing, squeezing like jaws, like an embrace or a kiss. Changes keep coming towards you, and you are following the evanescent, apparitional figure who disappears for long stretches. Moving onwards, you see her again, up ahead she turns and you continue to follow, traversing the way from which you seemingly came. Yet, now it's all different, a place you’ve never been before. One chamber after another opens and closes as you pass through; nothing ever repeats itself.
