Modeling the Female Body: A Survey of Computer Generated Women 1980-1993, color, sound, 3:00, 1994
I entered the field of computer graphics in 1978; in the next 16 years I had the opportunity to observe how women’s bodies are imaged and constructed in computer graphics in the areas of science, engineering, visualization, commercial/entertainment and art. What I found was disappointing, so I watched about 200 hours of examples from the Siggraph Video Reviews of research in computer graphics in the areas of science, technical, visualization, commercial and art dating from about 1977 to 1993 and collected, with permission, short examples of all the women pictured in this collection. My 3-minute video was shown at ACM Siggraph’94 Electronic Theater in Orlando, FL. Now in 2015, I could do a new collection from the last 20 years but I won’t because don’t think the content would be much different.
