Inkymole On Location were commissioned by Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books, to paint a three-wall mural on the inside of their busy and popular café, as part of their ten-year anniversary makeover.
The theme was ‘Food in children’s stories’ so a mural was designed that featured food elements from over 60 contemporary and classic children’s books, with visitors invited to spot the individual references hideen in the busy illustration.
Alongside the mural, Sarah created a wraparound type illustration for the reception and book shop desks which features 'the 7 stories of the world' - redemption, rebirth, quest, comedy, tragedy, monster, rags-to-riches - from which all stories are evolved. Another typographic hand-painted piece in the main reception are reads ‘There are seven stories in all the world but a thousand ways of telling them…’
Furthermore, the type was rendered in delicate white print on seven specially made Flying Books which hover over the heads of visitors as the enter the building, and glow in myriad colours, turning from white to red to gold to turquoise, peach and green in the air!
