The forgotten men of Bomber Command were finally acknowledged with a London memorial in 2012 ....
over 60 years too late for many.
Bomber Command consisted of over 125,000 volunteers from all over the Commonwealth. They endured losses greater than those of any other service.
The average age of an aircrew was twenty-two. Survival odds were less than 1 in 4 for a tour of 30 operations.
Victory however, came at a cost. Of the thousands of aircrew who took to the skies, 55,573 paid with their lives.
Reflect on their sacrifice. This piece is dedicated to those brave men of Bomber Command.
