The Elephant & Castle area has changed a lot since the WWII. It was badly bombed during the war and massive reconstruction was urgently needed afterwards.
The redevelopment plan started in 1962 and included the construction of the estates, the shopping centre and the London College of Communication among others.
The Elephant & Castle was once known for its many cinemas, its public baths and its myriad of individual shops. I wanted to know what it was like to live in the area before the redevelopment plan started and what the Elephant residents thought about the transformations the area went through.
