Conference “Hans Arp and the US”, American Academy Berlin, June 22 - 23, 2015
Hosted by the Stiftung Arp e.V.
The international conference was dealing with the widespread recognition the work of Hans Arp achieved after the Second World War. Above all, his works found resonance in museums and galleries in the United States and among American collectors. Nevertheless, art historians have not yet fully analyzed Arp’s influence on post-war American art or the significance of his relationships with collectors, patrons and artists. Although his presence in American exhibitions, galleries and the art market profoundly shaped his reception, the artist’s strong presence in the American art world has received little attention. The conference has advanced new scholarly approaches to the work of Hans Arp and promoted the exchange between academics, curators and art market experts.
