Museum Tinguely, Basel
The large installation, spanning several rooms was developed in 2014 for an exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. It includes various forms of readymades and found footage, such as a YouTube video in which Björk explains her understanding of how a TV works, and wall texts which are surviving extracts from a previous exhibition on the life and work of the designer and architect Eileen Gray. The installation is presented in the three primary colours of the additive colour system, red, green and blue, which when combined produce white light. This is the same system that is used in the operation of televisions, monitors or LEDs. As well as the original material on Eileen Grey, the reinstallation of The System in 2015 at Museum Tinguely in Basel includes additional triangular lamps by Chicago designer TJ O’Keefe. These are integrated as a new element of the installation.
