Music: Alright by Supergrass
Fri: Two tank dive. Saw turtles and tiny lionfish. Twilight dive off Jake's dock. Saw tons of lobster, flounder, octopuses and scorpionfish.
Sat: Dived off Jake's dock - saw the same stuff. Boarded the Dolphin Dream, met Captain Scott and his excellent crew: divemasters Mike and Connor, chef Gail and assistant Carrie.
Sun: Cleared Bahamas customs, did a check out dive on the Sugar Wreck. Saw stingray, a couple of lionfish and a nurse shark. Jim got grainy footage of a stingray whipping its tail at the nurse shark. Pretty cool.
First dolphin encounter was unbelievable. Tons of spotted dolphin (40 or more!) close enough to touch; playing, fighting, mating, and generally being boisterous. One of them spun me around so fast I nearly passed out. I think she was trying to kill me. It's a relief to know that the oil spill hasn't affected this place (yet). Jim saw a hammerhead on the bottom chased away by dolphins.
Night encounter was eerie and cool, until a reef shark showed up and scared us all out of the water. Rosie: "Should I be concerned?" Carrie: "I would be." Food was excellent, I was exhausted. I wonder who won the World Cup?
Mon: More amazing encounters. Head still hurt from spinning too fast, took a break late morning. Things picked up late afternoon. Another night encounter - no sharks this time. Food still awesome (thanks Gail).
Tue: Morning encounters still cool, but not as numerous or playful. Divers not cooperating as much as they should. Jim got bonked in the head by a camera.
Afternoon shark dive at Tiger Beach. No tiger sharks, but plenty of lemons. Shy they are not. A friendly (and brave) turtle showed up at the end. Night dive was way cool. Getting back on the boat was a bit tense. I wonder who won the All-Star Game?
Wed: Morning shark dive - one tiger showed up. She was the star. So beautiful.
TACO DAY! Deep, taco-induced sleep. Pretty sure Gail drugged us. Birthday celebrations = ice cream cake! I introduced Jackie, Jake and Jim to Boggle.
Thu: Rougher water, dolphins not as playful. Thinking about home. Enjoyed a dramatic lightning show on the crossing back while sitting on the top deck waiting for a cell phone signal.
