‘Whistling Man’ is a video performance of a blind busker whistling a song by Elvis ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’. The video is projected life size onto a three dimensional white structure (D:230cm x 114cm x 60cm).
The projected figure functions within a dual state: ghostly and fleeting, it also simultaneously asserts itself as tangible and monumental objects in its own right. In the interim between projections the empty white structure remains.
‘Whistling Man’ is a prizewinner in The Helen Keller International Art Award (UK, 2011). It has also been short-listed for the following awards: Best Documentary category at The Stoke Your Fires Festival (UK 2011), The Art Takes Miami Award (USA, 2010) and ‘The Renaissance Arts Prize’ by The Italian Cultural Institute (UK, 2010).
This piece is a part of a larger video installation titled ‘Transporter’ which sees multiple projections of individuals engaged in individual often private activities.
